Tip Tuesday from Summit Property Inspections
Living in Florida means dealing with heat, humidity, and frequent storms—all of which put your roof and attic under pressure. One often-overlooked part of home maintenance?
Proper attic ventilation.
What Is Attic Ventilation?
Attic ventilation allows hot, moist air to escape while drawing cooler, drier air in. This air exchange helps regulate attic temperatures and moisture levels.
Why It’s Critical in the Tampa Bay Area
In Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, and Manatee counties, we regularly inspect homes where attic heat builds up to dangerous levels. Without enough airflow, you can face:
Higher energy bills
Premature roof deterioration
Mold growth or wood rot
Reduced indoor comfort
Signs Your Attic Might Have a Ventilation Problem:
Rooms upstairs are hotter than the rest of the house
Roof shingles are curling or deteriorating
Moisture or mildew in the attic
How to Improve Attic Ventilation
Check:
Soffit vents (under the eaves)
Ridge vents (along the roof peak)
Gable vents (on the side walls of the attic)
Make sure vents are not blocked by insulation, debris, or pests.
Don’t Want to Get in the Attic? We Will.
At Summit Property Inspections, our home inspections include attic and roofing assessments. We’ll let you know if your home’s ventilation is up to par—or if it’s putting your roof and energy bills at risk.
